GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), better known as fibreglass, is strong, lightweight, and flexible—an ideal material that revolutionised boatbuilding in the 1970s and early 1980s. It made sailing and motorboating more accessible than ever before.

But the very qualities that made GRP perfect for boat production have now become a challenge.

But the very qualities that made GRP perfect for boat production have now become a challenge. As thousands of boats built 30–50 years ago reach the end of their usable life, disposing of GRP has become a growing concern. GRP recycling is complex and technically demanding—and the marine industry is still catching up.

We can arrange collection directly from your location or your boat can be delivered to a facilities in many locations throughout the UK where we can undertake the dismantling and separation of the parts. Once the vessel is with us, we become its final caretakers.

We remove all hazardous components—fuel tanks, oil, batteries, and particularly the antifouling paint. These materials are processed safely via licensed waste management partners. This critical step prepares the GRP for clean recycling

Every boat is a mix of different materials—GRP hulls, wooden interiors, fuel tanks, metal spars, and often toxic antifoul paints. Our disposal process tackles all of this, step by step, with sustainability at its core. GRP recycling is only one part of a broader, green solution.

The fibreglass is shredded into manageable pieces, making it easier to handle and process during the final stage of recycling.

The shredded GRP is sent to specialised incineration facilities, where it’s burned at high temperatures to generate energy—minimising pollution and avoiding landfill entirely.

It Matters

Don't Just Leave It

Don't Just Leave It

Disposing of an old boat can feel overwhelming—emotionally financially and environmentally. But there are responsible, affordable ways to do it.

Don't Just Leave It

It may be tempting to leave a boat moored and walk away, especially in the UK where ownership registration isn’t always required. But letting it rot just means someone else has to deal with it, maybe a family member or friend and this is not a sustainable solution. It can damage the environment, burden local authorities, and eventually cost more.

The Right Decision

Protecting Our Waterways

Having owned several boats over the years — each one I told myself I would one day repair, renovate, or sail again — I can confidently say that the best decision I made was to let them go. It wasn’t an easy choice, but the relief of lifting that responsibility, and knowing I wasn’t passing the problem on to someone else, made it the right one.
